Birth Support

Provides birthing families with, informational, physical, and emotional support before, during and after your birth. Allowing families to feel supported, informed as they navigate the birth experience.

Whether you're planning a vaginal or cesarean birth, the Essential Birth Support Package is perfect for families looking for support before, during, and after birth. Together we'll explore the various aspects of birth and the immediate postpartum period as they apply to your birthing goals. Please note that my services are not a substitute for a Child Birth Education (CBE) class. It is recommended that families, especially those on their first birthing journey, experience a CBE series. This allows us to collaborate powerfully as we navigate your birthing preparations and ultimately your overall experience.

What's Included

  • Complimentary consultation and Intake meeting

  • 2-3 in-home or virtual prenatal visits (approximately 60-90 mins) depending on your gestational age

  • Phone, text and email support up until your birth and immediately postpartum

  • On-call 24/7 from 37 weeks gestation until birth

  • Personalized birth preference documents

  • Continuous in-person emotional, mental, informational and physical support for the duration of your birth

  • Access to birth and postpartum planning materials

  • 1-2 postpartum visits in your home or at the hospital

What to Expect

During each prenatal, we will explore the physiological aspects of birth, discuss your birth preferences, practice different comfort measures, and build a practical birthing plan. Support partners are encouraged to attend each prenatal session when available so that everyone feels ready for the birthing experience ahead. Other areas of discussion can include:

  • Mind and body prep

  • Newborn care

  • Breastfeeding

  • Postpartum recovery

  • Nutrition

  • Family planning

  • VBAC/TOLAC

  • Trauma informed resources

  • Perinatal mental health

  • Bonding and attachment

  • Infant sleep

  • Babywearing

  • Infant feeding

When it's time for your birth, and my presence has been requested, I will meet you at the agreed upon location and provide you with continuous in-person support. Support takes many forms, and includes everything from hip squeezes and counterpressure to breathing guidance and photographer. While my focus is often on the birthing person, my presence in the birthing space is intended to support both the birthing person and partner as we've agreed upon. Physical supports I can provide during your labour and birth include but are not limited to:

  • Massage/counter pressure

  • Acupressure

  • Assisting with a TENS machine

  • Birthing ball positions

  • Suggesting and assisting with position changes

  • Creating a calming environment (lights, curtains, etc)

  • Water therapy (bath, shower)

  • Hydrating and feeding birther

  • Hands-on infant feeding support

  • Meditation and mindfulness techniques

Following your birth, I'll remain with you for about 90 minutes to provide whatever postpartum assistance is required.

At our postpartum visits we'll take the necessary time to debrief your birth experience. During this time we'll also review various topics including:

  • Newborn care

  • Infant feeding

  • Postpartum recovery

  • Bonding and attachment

  • Infant sleep

  • Babywearing

  • Sex/Relationships
  • Household management

  • and more!
